In the digital age, the prevalence of mental health challenges has risen, increasing the need for accessible and engaging resources. Our team has designed a mobile application that tracks life aspects, educates users about mental health, and motivates them through gamification. Based on feedback from our low-fidelity design phase, this report details the creation of a high-fidelity prototype developed in Figma. This prototype demonstrates adherence to Nielsen’s 10 Heuristics and illustrates our progression from initial concepts to a polished design.

The vision for our mental health app was to become a cornerstone in personalized health management, especially tailored to the needs of young adults with any conditions, navigating the complexities of modern life. Our goal was to ensure that every aspect of the app was not only informative and supportive but also easy to use.

Enhanced Accessibility Options:
In our mental health app, we've categorized features and tools into horizontal carousels. This organization allows users to intuitively explore areas they find beneficial while bypassing those they don’t. Each carousel is labeled with versatile headers to ensure adaptability as we introduce more content types. Distinct visual cues, like square icons for structured activities like guided meditations, and circular icons for broader categories such as general wellness tips, help users navigate the offerings more effectively.
From the Questionnaires, we recognize the diverse needs of our user base, we expanded accessibility features within each grouping. These include text resizing, color contrast adjustments, and voice navigation options, ensuring that all users, regardless of their physical abilities, can effectively interact with the recommended features.

Our initial low-fidelity prototypes revealed various usability and functionality gaps that could potentially hinder user engagement and effectiveness, without feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of the app interface. Additionally, the initial designs lacked sufficient functionality like sleep tracker. to truly engage users in their mental health journey.

Between Test Phases, we introduced a feedback mechanism in our mental health app, asking users, “Are you finding this feature helpful for your mental wellness?”

Users who responded negatively were prompted to elaborate on their dissatisfaction. This ongoing feedback revealed critical areas for improvement and led us to conduct detailed interviews with dissatisfied users. These interviews confirmed our suspicions and equipped us with the insights needed to enhance our app’s features.

The redesign of our mental health app represented a crucial opportunity to enhance our standing in the digital health applications market. By integrating user feedback into our design, even minor enhancements in user interaction and satisfaction had the potential to significantly boost satisfaction rate by around 8 percent in each testing phase.

During the design phase, various layouts and interaction models were explored, including segmented controls for filtering content, swipeable categories for ease of navigation, and expandable menus for detailed feature information. The final design was selected based on its effectiveness in user tests and its ability to seamlessly integrate with existing app functionalities.
